Module Description

This course provides a theoretical basis for understanding poverty and international development. It discusses theologiocal perspectives and major development approaches in the context of Christian mission and the opportunities and challenges for churches and Christian NGOs in this process.

Content

  • Overview of major approaches to development since the 1960s
  • Theological Perspectives on integral mission and international develepment
  • Indepth study of major current development approaches and discourses
  • Opportunities and challenges for churches and Christian NGOs in development work

Result of the course

  • know major concepts and approaches to international development.
  • be able to understand and reflect theologial approaches to these issues.
  • be able to link theoretical and theological concepts to practical development activities.
  • be able to critiacally reflect on their personal understanding of development and that of their agencies based on a sound theological basis.

Usually offered every two years.

Assignments

Reading ca. 100 pages of book chapters and articles. Writing a reflection on one’s own or an organization’s understanding of development.
