Transformative Adult Education in Intercultural Contexts - ONLINE

Understanding foundational pedagogy and andragogy greatly improves teaching in higher education. This course explores the characteristics of adult learners with special attention to transformative learning, culturally responsive teaching, and research-based instructional practices within theological and intercultural contexts. Participants will engage principles from cognitive science, social-emotional learning, and brain research to better understand how people learn and how meaningful learning environments are cultivated. Constructive alignment through backward-design thinking will be studied as a framework for teaching and course preparation. The course also introduces critical reflection on the growing role of AI-enabled technologies and digital tools in education. In addition, frameworks such as cultural safety, cultural humility, and intercultural awareness will be explored as alternatives and complements to traditional models of cultural competency in multicultural theological classrooms.
